The first full-scale Hyperion Orbital Factory Vehicle prototype is now hardware-ready for the upcoming stratospheric drop test.
The system will be lifted by a zero-pressure balloon to an altitude of ≈30 km, where it will autonomously detach, stabilize, and descend using onboard navigation and recovery systems.
The test validates all key mechanisms — balloon interface, stage separation, attitude control, telemetry, and recovery — proving the complete launch-to-release cycle before orbital integration.
This milestone marks the first physical step toward autonomous orbital manufacturing — a transition from render to reality.
